The college was formerly known as Government Engineering College (GEC), Bhopal or Bhopal Engineering Collage (BEC). In July 2002, the institution became a constituent college of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (the Technological University of the State of Madhya Pradesh). University Institute of Technology RGPV imparts technical education at under graduate as well as post graduate levels.
The institution is situated near Gandhi Nagar on the outskirts of the city, about 3 km. from the airport on the Gwalior by-pass road. The campus is spread on contiguous 241.14 acres. The campus has Instructional blocks, Workshop, Library block and Administrative block. Apart from this the campus has residential facilities for the staff and separate hostels for both boys and girls.
